In Mark's gospel this text (Mark 9:30-37) signals a point in which Jesus begins his journey to Jerusalem where he is to suffer and die. One the way he begins to teach his disciples what kind of Messiah he is and what kind of followers he seeks. They don't get it. I wonder if we get it any better today.
